Glossary

• Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

  A non-invasive imaging technique that allows for detailed examination of the brain. 

• Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST)

  A screening tool consisting of five steps to help identify which adults are malnourished or at risk of malnourishment. 

• Meta-analysis

  A statistical technique for combining the results of a number of studies that address the same question and report on the same outcomes to produce a summary result. 

• Mouth care

  Also referred to as oral health care. Refers to the promotion and maintenance of a clean oral cavity including the teeth, gums, cheeks, tongue and palate.  A clean mouth requires the removal of traces of food and debris and dental plaque. 

• MRI with diffusion-weighted imaging

  This type of scan shows areas of recent ischaemic brain damage. 

• Musculoskeletal pain

  Pain of the muscles and/or joints.
